Introduction When I was 17, my grandfather died of cirrhosis of the liver caused by a severe genetic disorder called Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. At that time, this rare disorder was, and in many ways still is, in its infancy as far as research and treatment are concerned. After my grandfather died, my mother was taken to the hospital to undergo several blood tests and found that she too has Liver Disease caused by Alpha 1 Antitrypsin Deficiency. There is not much that an affected person can do except to keep in as good as health as possible and be as active as possible. A strange thing about this disorder is that your body metabolizes its own muscle at an incredible rate, and so a diet high in protein and an exercise program to build muscle is imperative. I would like to invite everyone to help me raise awareness of this disorder by joining me on my adventures. To learn more about this disorder please visit http://www.alpha1canada.ca/
