| Introduction | I studied and practiced with Gudo Nishijima Roshi in Japan for many years, returning to the UK in 2000 to teach zazen, the practice of dynamic balance. Since 2018 I live in the Czech Republic, where I continue to teach zazen to people. Rather than using the terms “zen” or “Buddhism”, I feel more comfortable these days in talking about “the teachings”, referring to what I understand to be the essence of what Gautama appeared to have been describing about his life experience thousands of years ago and what he tried to teach in his life. |
