Introduction I was just five years old when I saw my first movie. In 1989 my father and grandmother took my brother and myself to Apollo Theater in Oberlin Ohio to see Ghost Busters 2. It was the first time I had ever stepped foot into any theater, and it was an instant love affair. Whenever I wanted to see a movie, I would ask my parents if we could go to Apollo, and soon I became a regular patron there. I grew up there and I still go there now as an adult. I always feel at home when I visit Apollo. What I love about Apollo is that I am so captivated by the allure of “Old Hollywood” that radiates from the exterior and the interior of the theater. Apollo was built in 1913; it has a 1950s-style marquee, outdoor ticket booth and vinyl-padded walls. As a child, I remember standing in long lines around the street, and I remember the atmosphere was filled with excitement and anticipation for the film.Best of all whenever I visit Apollo, regardless of what film I am seeing, I always feel like I go back to a time when it was the story that made the film, instead of the effects. Apollo had given me my love for film, and now I am going to school to be a movie reviewer.
