| Introduction | I am Richard Durant, Engish Adviser for Devon. I work with schools to improve the teaching of English, but also to help teachers of all subjects improve their practice. I work mainly in Devon, but beyond as well. I am the author of many articles on teaching and learning and a great many books - mainly of teaching materials. My main publishers are Heinemann (Pearson), Smart Learning and Teachit. My most recent books and articles are "Less Good Writing" (a guide to improving writing across the secondary curriculum), "Getting on with Writing" (a series of teaching plans to help lower-attaining students improve) and "Six Features of Outstanding Lessons". I have also spent a great deal of time in front of my own classes recently - 7 months as acting Head of English in Dartmouth Academy in 2010-11 (where Ofsted rated my teaching as outstanding); five months as resident English adviser and teacher in another academy in 2012. |
