Introduction Martin R. Ricketts, Renshi, studies Okinawan Goju-Ryu Karate Do, Okinawan Kobudo (Japanese weapons) and Muso Jikiden Eishin-Ryu Iaido (the art of drawing the sword). Renshi Ricketts has been a volunteer Karate instructor for more than 10 years and holds the rank of Godan (5th degree Black Belt) in Karate and Sandan (3rd degree) in Iaido. Renshi Ricketts also has extensive experience in sport karate having won more than 30 awards. As an experienced competitor, he has officiated at many tournaments judging Kata, Kumite and weapons. In 2002 Renshi Ricketts traveled to Kyoto where he received Dan ranking and title of Renshi (teacher, master of self) from the Governor of Dai Nippon Butoku Kai, (all Japan Martial Virtues Society) His Royal Highness, Sosai, Higashi Fushimi, Jigo. Renshi Ricketts is a certified member of DNBK and a senior member of DNBK Canada. The head of DNBK Canada and Renshi Rickett’s Renshi is Kyoshi Kenneth B. Tallack, Hachidan (8th Dan). Renshi Ricketts is also a certified member of the Canadian Kendo Federation (CKF) which is affiliated with the International Kendo Federation headquartered in Tokyo, Japan.
