| Introduction | Growing up in Spain, Central and South America, I was captivated by how interwoven culture and art are in these countries—one does not exist without the other. Art and culture naturally found their way into my childhood through play and creativity. Often, I accompanied my mother to the “mercados” (open air markets) in the central cities, and became enchanted by small relics and charms called Milagros (Spanish for miracle). These iconic charms in the shape of a heart, an animal, a leg or praying child, etc. were worn to Cathedrals by the people of Latin America to petition patron saints for a miracle or goodwill. As kids, my friends and I collected milagros and placed them on leather cords to make necklaces and bracelets. We relished trading them and giving them away as gifts. Today, this childhood pursuit has evolved into an eclectic jewelry company that offers timeless creations inspired by rich and beautiful cultures. |
