| Introduction | I cannot remember precisely when I became a sports nut. It may have been when I got a new baseball glove in the 3rd grade and broke it in by throwing a ball against my bedroom wall. At least my parents might mark that as the date. Baseball was my first love, following the mediocre Detroit Tigers and playing pick up games with as few as three people. No little league in those days. I still dream about playing third base for the Tigers. My interests broadened eventually to include almost every sport to my wife's everlasting annoyance. The Olympics have always been a special attraction and I have always wanted to attend. The best opportunity was 1996 in Atlanta, but the cost of lodgings and even a single event was out of reach. When my daughter Terri took a job in London in 2011, I immediately started plotting to attend the 2012 Games. I hope my friends and family will come along for the ride. |
