IntroductionDouglas Blake Olds is a retired PC(USA) pastor, poet, and public ethicist. His work joins Reformed theology, prophetic poetics, virtue ethics, political critique, and metaphysical analysis of artificial intelligence. Olds develops a conative anthropology in which human beings are time-bearing creatures called by the incarnate Logos into accountable repair. His central claims concern predicate theft, idolatrous abstraction, and the displacement of living judgment by dead mediation: AI and its allied institutions borrow language proper to persons—intelligence, care, agency, memory, repentance, creativity—while lacking covenantal accountability, neighbor-bearing love, and the capacity to bear truth in time. Olds advances concepts such as conation, time-bearing, routered authority, homeostatics, proleptic speciation, biological formalism, and iconoclastic repair. His project contests technological inevitability, bureaucratic euphemism, and philosophy when abstraction shelters condemned power from theology’s judgment. Against despair, he argues for Shema-Christological formation: hearing, heart, right mind, embodied care, and poietic repair in creaturely time. His poetry is vatic, too.
