Introduction I am an artist primarily specialising in watercolour landscapes of mountain, desert, Arctic and wild coastal scenery, although at times I also enjoy figure work, industrial scenes and works of the imagination. I write books and articles, produce DVDs on painting and expeditions, and have done some television work, including my own series, 'Painting Wild Wales'. I have always believed in the absolute need for the artist to experience the subject first-hand for true authenticity: if I want to paint a polar bear or the inside of a glacier crevass I will go and seek these subjects out, in the Arctic and abseilling into the depths of the glacier if necessary. It is this first-hand experience with nature that both helps my art and rewards me in a greater understanding and sensitivity to the beauties of the natural world. Hence, I am often campaigning to highlight any threats to the landscape from inapropriate developments. I have written 14 books, some about the countryside, some about painting and one about the mysterious water folk of Llandrindod Wells - the Llandoddies. Seven DVDs have been produced on my way of painting in watercolour, plus others on various expeditions.
