About me

Introduction Sergeant Major Sauer enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1971 and completed recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina. His career includes assignments as a Drill Instructor, Reconnaissance Platoon Sergeant, Officer Candidates School Instructor, and Assistant Marine Officer Instructor at MIT. From 1985 to 1990 he worked on special projects for urban operations. During November of 1990, he joined 1st Battalion, 25th Marines as Chief Scout-Sniper for Operation Desert Storm. In January 1993, he was promoted to First Sergeant and assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 25th Marines. He was promoted to his present rank in January 1997, and was assigned as Battalion Sergeant Major of 3rd, Battalion, 25th Marines. He returned to 1st Battalion 25th Marines in January 1999, and retired during February, 2003. His personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat ā€œVā€, the Navy Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon. Sergeant Major Sauer is a graduate of Boston College. Since retiring from the Corps in 2003, he has worked as an advisor on U.S. Government projects in the Middle East and Central Asia.
