Introduction | We would like you to meet Sixten! He is one of our three children, and he has cerebral palsy. We are Robert Kurz and Anna Helm Kurz, and our other children are Gustav and Ludvig. If you know anything about famous musical conductors, these names may mean something to you -- our children were named for them. Robert is a professional classical musician, and Anna is a Visiting Assistant Professor of International Business at George Washington University. We live in Bowie, Maryland -- just outside of Washington, DC. In the seven years since we were blessed with Sixten, we have faced many challenges and learned a great deal about cerebral palsy. After years of working with Sixten and physicians, experts and educators, we are perhaps most encouraged by an educational curriculum called Conductive Education (CE). As you read this blog, we encourage you to learn more about Conductive Education and how it can help children like Sixten. Our goal is to persuade public school systems to adopt Conductive Education programs so that children with cerebral palsy have a better chance at a happier, healthier and more fulfilling life. |
