Introduction     As a 'transplant' from New York's Southern Tier, I started gardening when I bought my house 25 years ago by planting annuals from Builder's Square (like Home Depot) in nice neat rows. After experimenting with spring bulbs, vegetables, perennials, and a lot of failures, I now find leaf patterns & textures, heights, variety, and informal composition adding the drama, interest, and natural beauty originally sought after. My gardening is an indulgence; a therapeutic, simple, leisurely joy in life, changing with the seasons and staying fresh.
I started using the blog as a journal - a private reference to record progress in the garden, planting times, conditions. I revised it and turned it public one day to share my experience with others, more or less to allow them to avoid mistakes, repeat successes, and compare notes. I try to focus on one plant for each post, recording its history and impressions.
I enjoy reading blogs that are educational and entertaining. I frequent about 2 dozen, leaving comments if I have something of value (no fluff) or a compliment to share.
