| Introduction | So this is where I write about myself. Ah, sweet narcissism! Well, I was born in the year of the Rooster, under the sign of Capricorn, in the state of New South Wales. I am married, with two children – a boy and a girl, neither of whom is of school age yet. My wife and I both work full-time and share the household duties. The children attend childcare 5 days a week, which I often feel guilty about. I work in a library, which is a job I enjoy, because books are one of my greatest pleasures. Until my mid-20s I would have called myself a Christian; I was raised in the Brethren church (the open rather than the exclusive variety). I would now describe myself as agnostic, and my beliefs are guided by whatever evidence I possess. This means, obviously, that my beliefs frequently change as I come into contact with more evidence. I am not hostile to religion per se, but I am hostile to the sort of attitude which ignores any evidence that conflicts with pre-existing beliefs. And that, in a nutshell, is me. |
