| Introduction | I am starting this blog as a way to invest time in writing. My career is fulfilling and I am dedicated, almost to a fault, to that pursuit. But I am starting to yearn for the solitude and space that it will take to be a writer. The older I get the more I look forward to a life of contemplation. When I think of writing, seriously I always think of Annie Dillard. If I can see half of what she sees in the world and communicate in language half as profound and piercingly lovely as the words that she chooses, I will have found my path, my quest for meaning and fulfillment. |
| Interests | Quilting, Writing, Reading, Watercolor and Pastel |
| Favorite movies | I love the chick flicks wherein people find love when they least expect it - like, Under the Tuscan Sun. But my true favorite is The Secret Garden. It is a journey of self discovery. Two lost souls are brought to life, and so, too, the roses! |
| Favorite music | Soulful. Lyrical. Nora Jones. Dido. Renee Olstead. Music with a message. Rob Thomas. Chris Issak, Jackson Browne. There are so many truly moving pieces of music in the world, it is impossible to name favorites. The voice of Josh Turner. The Eagles and The Beatles! I just love music. New music, old music. Toto, The Doors, Chicago, Katie Melia. Garth Brooks. Natalie Merchant. Bob Seger. My all time favorite song, for what reason I will never know, is Brown Eyed Girl by Van Morrison. |
| Favorite books | Mmmmmm... This is worse than music! Books are the gift of all humanity to itself. My most recent favorite journey has been with Sandra Dallas, who writes about what it is to be a woman and what it is like to live in Colorado. But I read all kinds of books. I am trying to think of something I loved so much that I read it again and again, like watching a favorite movie. Posession by A.S. Byatt, The Secret Life of Bees, Annie Dillard's Pilgrim at Tinker Creek. I like books that take me to thinking places where I have never been before. Not puzzles and mysteries. I like to share - to be let into a world I where it is wonderful to spend time. I love the books that Rosamund Pilcher writes, about people who live in a society that is so foreign to me and yet such a nice place to spend time. From my childhood, I remember spending years with Walter Farley and Dorothy Lyons, with the horses. I would love to write a book that takes the reader away with me in that way. |
Do you believe that forks are evolved from spoons?
Not a chance. Forks are forks and spoons are spoons. We are all connected but we are what we are. I think the idea of forks evolved from fingers and the idea of spoons evolved from cupping hands to catch rain.
