| Introduction | I grew up in south central VA where gloom and danger was always just around the corner. You never walked while eating a popsicle for fear of a stick puncture. A woman never drove out of town alone for fear of an abduction by an escaped convict. Your eye could easily be scooped out by a coat hanger, butter knife or knitting needle. Speaking of illness and death was a sport and the obituaries were broadcast on the radio everyday at lunch. Many a Spaghetti-O was consumed while hearing of the funeral of a neighbor. Since childhood, to move myself to a happier place, I've been interested in "visual things". Art, books, interior design and fashion have always taken me away. Being the same person at 50 as I was at 5, these things still make me happy. |
