| Introduction | I am 30 years old and I have segmental vitiligo. I am from Lorain,Ohio.I was 11 when I noticed my first spot on my left leg. I remember my dad saying he thought it was ring worm. All I remember after that is it spread so fast it ended up on the left side of my body up to the middle of my back. I was only 11!The doctors prescribed me pills and creams to try to get it to go away! I tried UV lights, even went to the Cleveland Clinic to get answers.My self-esteem when straight down hill after realizing this thing is now part of me.I found a doctor in Cincinnati when I was 17 and thought I will never be in Cincinnati so I just gave up. I went to the military after high school and later met my husband in 2002 that just happened to be from Cincinnati!I met the doctor but he said he didn't do the procedure anymore. After crying in his office he agreed to do it for me just one time.He perfor'med a suction blister procedure where he took skin from my thighs to place over just a couple of the spots.We didn't get a lot of skin like we thought we would, so it didn't cover up as much as I would have liked but I thought this means there is hope for me to be "normal". |
