| Introduction | We became interested in bees after learning about colony collapse disorder. It was not until that time that we learned how important bees are to our livelihood as humans. Bees pollinate up to 80% of the food we eat, and without them, we would not be able to enjoy many of our favorite foods.
In 2011 we began beekeeping with an adopted swarm of bees that had been captured by our friend and fellow beekeeper. Within a few weeks, we acquired a second colony from a wall cut-out. The following spring, we adopted two more colonies.
