| Introduction | Early in 1960's a unit of combat stevedores were based in Subic Bay, Republic of the Philippines. Composed of 80 enlisted men and 3 supply corp officers the unit was mobile and specialized in all phases of port logistics. On the 28 of April 1965, attached to the 9th Marine Expeditionary Brigade, the battalion landed in Danang RVN. Now, after 46 years, I ponder where are those men today? So, the quest begins, success will depend on one's willingness to be found. The Winchman was born in NYC in 1945 and raised and schooled in the Bronx. Married my childhood sweetheart 42 years ago and moved to NJ over 30 years ago. Retired in 2006 and loving it! As a 19 year old newly rated Boatswain Mate 3rd class in the year 1965 I reported to CHB 2 in Subic Bay RP. I really had no idea as to what to expect. Well OK, let's just say I was given some pretty good hints. I honestly thought that maybe, just maybe, these folks were really not serious. Wow, was I wrong, the next 15 months showed me just how serious these times really were. |
