| Introduction | I was born in Los Angeles when Lyndon B. Johnson was President, bouffant hair-dos were the rage and Barbie dolls, especially mine, ruled the world. When I was five, my mom uprooted us to Lexington, Kentucky, where I had a busy childhood in the drama department quoting Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler. After receiving a Master’s degree in Asian film, I returned to Los Angeles to work as Barbet Schroeder’s Assistant on “Single White Female.” Two years later. I moved up to Creative VP for Pacific Rim Productions. I was miserable being a movie executive, so I quit and started producing and directing independent films. My greatest joy was meeting President Clinton after he watched my film, “Tobacco Blues,” on board Air Force One. After being listed as one of Showbiz Data's Top 100 Directors, I decided it was time to have a couple of babies. The loss of control over my life caused me to question my own sanity, sense of self and personal hygiene standards. In 2005, “Mothering Heights” came to print in the Laguna Beach Independent and online. The column is currently being potty-trained but I’m hoping by end of the year, she will be in panties and sleeping through the night. |
