| Introduction | Girls Nation is a citizenship training program deeply rooted in tradition and exemplifying the values of loyalty to America. Two outstanding citizens from each state are chosen to become Girls Nation “Senators” and attend the National level program in Washington, D.C. The program is comprised of our country’s most elite and astute students, as 98 high school juniors are selected from over 20,000 students who attend their state Girls State program. Over the course of a week in July the girls will create mock legislature that gives them a firsthand experience with the workings of the federal government and political processes. These young women organize political parties, submit bills and resolutions, participate in senate sessions and elect government officials. Other program highlights include visits to the Pentagon, Arlington National Cemetery, Capitol Hill, and The White House where they meet the President of the United States. |
