| Introduction | Risha Rox is a makeup artist, artfully positioning herself as a game-changer and trailblazer. She has taken on what she refers to as “the most fascinating and enduring of artistic subjects, the human form”, as her latest canvas. She began this journey as a tattoo artist, but rapidly lost interest in the scent of blood, the violence and permanence of it all. Shortly thereafter, she was asked to apply her artistic skills to the face and body of singer, Nucomme for stage performances. She quickly fell in love with the infinite possibilities and magic she discovered in the glimmering powders and pigments. Risha finds inspiration in luminous color, jaggedly juxtaposed concepts, the sacred feminine, her dreams, cartoons/comics and frankly, the bizarre. Her aesthetic sensibility is deeply informed by her heritage as an Afro-Los Angelina and a Jamaican of East Indian decent. Also woven into the fabric of her work are her adventures in Los Angeles, Ontario (CA), Berkeley, Oakland, Jamaica, London and Brooklyn. Utterly spellbound by the prismatic spectrum of humanness, themes of divinity and carnality can be found throughout Risha’s work. |
