| Introduction | Mike and Jenny met in a sailing club in 2000. One of the many interests we had in common was sailing. We were married in 2002 and are now beginning to live our dream of retiring and cruising on our Westsail 42 named Abake (a-bah'-kee). It is a West African name meaning "child to be cherished". Mike was in love with Westsails, so there was no question that we would own one. We started with a beautiful sturdy Westsail 32 and named her Namida (Chippewa Indian for "star dancer"). We loved our time on the water so much we decided to upgrade to a Westsail 42 and purchased Abake in California in 2010. She was trucked across the country to Annapolis, MD, and we have been working on her for the past 3 years. We are hoping to begin long-term cruising this Fall (2013) when we head to the Bahamas for the winter. |
