About me

Gender Male
Occupation Artist/Cartoonist
Location Porirua, Wellington, New Zealand
Introduction I began drawing at a very young age, having a mother who was a wonderful watercolour painter. Like mothers in the 1950's, she encouraged her family to draw and paint. I entered my first watercolour painting competition at age nine; this was a nation-wide competition which I was lucky enough to win. After successfully completing School Certificate Art at Secondary School, I later trained as a signwriter. Although I have worked in other media, I find watercolour the most exciting. I enjoy bright, clean colours, wet-on-wet and a "just let it happen" attitude. I remind myself that simplicity is the key. In recent years I have painted in Ireland and Australia and I supply a tourist outlet in Ireland on a regular basis. My subject base is fairly broad. Marine scenes have a big appeal and the MacKenzie Country of the South Island provide a broad spectrum of wonderful scenery. Born and educated in Timaru, I return to the area regularly to sketch and paint and also produce paintings from my home town of Porirua.
Interests Traditional Irish Folk Music, Watercolours, Oil Paintings, Golf.
