| Introduction | I work as a subtitler for the deaf, coving programmes for the BBC and Channel 4, both pre-recorded and live. Live involves respseaking, with which I have a love-hate relationship. When it works, it's great. However, it's been known to mishear what you say in rather creative ways, so "chewing gum" can go to air as "chewing bum" - rather different meaning, methinks. I am not religious, although I support a person's right to practise their faith freely...just so long as it's kept away from the government and laws. Post-enlightenment thinking has done a lot of good for the world. Let's not start down the reverse path. My politics are very liberal. I believe in government, as we need some controls in place or anarchy results. But this is purely from the point of view of helping everyone achieve their potential and supporting those in need. As for a person's private life, the word private is important. Being gay has a lot to do with it. When you've experienced prejudice, you realise the emptiness of bigotry and try to do your bit to fight it. |
