| Introduction | My life is consumed by books and my three year old basset hound, Fletcher, who has on occasion consumed my books. We both like to walk for fun and for exercise and neither of us can pass up anything related to peanut butter. For the past twenty years or so I have been an avid reader of comic books and graphic novels. I collect titles ranging from Grendel to Marvel’s superheroes to anything Neil Gaiman touches. My attraction began with the darker side of comics when I fell in love with the vampires of Grendel and the twisted nature of Marvel’s Ghost Rider. Since then, I have branched out into many more aspects of the comic world like humor, action, and real life stories like Daniel Clowes’ Ghost World and Adrian Tomine’s Shortcomings. As a former English major, I tend to see the graphic novel as a form of literature and therefore fodder for analyzation. This blog is a place for me to write my thoughts on those stories and delve deeper, beyond the surface elements. I hope to connect with others who enjoy comics on any level and hopefully start a conversation about the dimensions underneath the ink. |
