Introduction	Why Harold Bloom's Western Canon? I'm the kind of girl that likes a challenge and what's not to love about a 42 page book list. I have now been doing this project for almost seven years. When I began this project I had a lot of free time on my hands and lived across the street from a library. Now seven years later I have almost no free time and two children who prefer a slightly different book list. There are days when I ask why I'm still doing this...but then I discover a hidden gem, a kindred spirit, a swirling debate on the steps of the agora, and I'm sucked back in.
