Interests Dana Ellis grew up in Clearwater, FL until the age of 18 where she danced, exercised, ran track, swam, and began cooking in the kitchen, to some, this is also known as experimenting and being a mad scientist. From there, Dana attended Cornell University, in Ithaca, NY. She entered as a Human Biology, Health, and Society major, later added a double major of Nutritional Sciences, and also minored in Acting, completing all of this in three years. She then completed her clinical dietetic internship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, GA, where she learned all her clinical nutrition therapies in a University Hospital setting. While at Emory University, Dana spent a brief time interning at the CNN Health News Unit’s headquarters, also located in Atlanta, GA where she was able to contribute her knowledge and love of nutrition to such reporters as Dr. Sanjay Gupta. While at CNN, Dana honed her skill at writing, and disseminating information to the public, and was given the idea “to write a book!”
Favorite Music In July of 2004, at the cusp of Dana’s 22nd birthday, Dana moved to Los Angeles, CA where she continued to pursue her interests of cooking, public speaking, and clinical nutrition. Dana began taking graduate level classes at UCLA’s School of Public Health and decided she wanted to go back to school to earn her Masters degree in Public Health. In May of 2005, Dana was hired to work at UCLA Medical Center, as a clinical dietitian for the inpatient general internal medicine and cardio-pulmonary specialties. In September, 2005, Dana began her journey for her Masters in Public Health (MPH) degree while continuing to work full-time in her clinical position at UCLA Medical Center. She graduated from the MPH program at UCLA in June 2007. She has been a contributor to a number of magazines and health publications including Forbes.com, the Georgia Liver Foundation, 24-Hour Fitness’s new magazine You24 a Rodale Publisher’s magazine, as well as being the writer for all the nutrition news and wellness-articles that circulate throughout the UCLA’s worksite wellness initiative. Dana is now continuing her quest to disseminate nutrition information and cooking know-how to the public in a fun, informative, and easy manner, because we all need a little help in the kitchen when it comes to cooking quick, easy, and healthful meals.
