Why does the taste of pennies remind you of losing a tooth?

Because the slight cupric taste caused by the copper in pennies is similar to the ferric taste caused by the heme portion of the hemoglobin (or blood) that you lost when you lost a tooth. The real question is why you're tasting pennies.
