Introduction	Still photos allow us to capture, in an instant, complex and layered stories rich with emotion. We see an image and we are moved -- by its beauty, or by the memories it sparks, or by the story it tells about our own lives. One still image can often draw out more thought and feeling than a full-length feature film. A still photo can capture our imagination or haunt our consciousness like virtually no other form of expressive art. This is why I love being a photographer: That an image I captured in an instant can become an emotional touchstone for others is simultaneously humbling and invigorating for me as an artist.
