Introduction Rich Kitchens graduated U.C. Santa Cruz (1974, Politics major), has a teaching credential (SF State), a M.S. in educational leadership (CSU Hayward), and a law degree from John F. Kennedy University. He has taught high school in Oakland, Vacaville, Travis Air Force Base, Fall River, and in. During his more than 30 years of teaching social studies and coaching he has taught mostly social studies and coached mostly basketball, been chosen “Coach of the Year,” named a “Lois Blair Rawlings Inspirational Teacher” and a SBD/CTY Fellow from Johns Hopkins, served as athletic and student activities director, President of the teacher’s union, a contract negotiator (for BOTH labor and management), Assistant Principal and Principal. He has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at Golden Gate Univ. Law School and at John F. Kennedy Univ. Law School. In 2013 he was named the John F. Kennedy University Law School “Alumnus of the Year.” His law practice (http://teacherlaw.com) represents students, parents, teachers, administrators and district officials. He directs the Con Law Ed Project (http://conlawed.com) and is a trained “interest-based” facilitator and mediator.
