My blogs
| Introduction | My relationship with horse racing is sometimes love/hate, but 90% of the time love. It is a complex relationship, I'm sure, rife with contradictions. I do not think this just speaks of me, but of horse racing as well. I think horse racing has a hold on many people for reasons that others are not close to understanding, and which even they themselves may not understand. I do not gamble, and I do not ride. My love is for the sport of horse racing. I love the Triple Crown and Breeders' Cup, yes, but on a deeper level, I love the millions of stories and improbabilities lying in the data. In spirit, I am a baseball card junkie, and horse racing is even easier to make cards for than baseball. There are so many winners and losers in racing. There is great humor in the ever-changing relationships and improbabilites; we just have to see this and embrace it. There is more to this blog: hopefully, for instance, I am attuned to the thematic and the interesting, rather than to news. I have my pet peeves, and my recurring topics (pedigree as history, overlays, claimers with overlooked quality). But at its core, this is a blog that draws on the magic and richness of the data in racing. |
