| Introduction | I'm Italian but have been living in the UK for a while. Being Italian means I grew up surrounded by art. When you are young, you take this for granted, not realising that not everyone in the world is as lucky as you are. My love for art started when I was a teenager. I wanted to go to art school but my parents didn't allow me to: 'Art schools are full of weirdos and druggies', they said, so I didn't go and never thought again of becoming an artist myself. Art came back into my life a few years ago, when I became interested in modern and contemporary Italian art. It was great to realise that not everything, in terms of Italian art, had finished with the renaissance, and that there were Italian artists who were well known and well established globally. My passion for contemporary art started then. I look to contemporary art to understand what is about to happen; to see the next thing; new ways of making art; to marvel at new ideas, symbols and styles. I look to contemporary art to see the future of art itself. |
