Introduction	I was born in Perlis in 1951, that was several years prior to the independence of the country, the Malay Peninsula or Malaya (now Malaysia) from Britain. The second in family of two, son of a rice farmer. Life in rural kampong then was phew... absolutely tough. The nearest school was 3km away from home and during the primary school days going to school and coming back was on foot throughout the years, often walking bare-footed on the narrow earth bund or "batas bendang" crossing the vast open sea of rice fields. We relied on the light from kerosene lamps for reading light at night and really we had no choice but forced to swallow, bathe and wash clothes using quite a "muddy" well water. No TV, no radio, no telephone, only bicycle no motorbike.
