| Introduction | Anne Rhodes grew up in Portland, Maine, where she began studying voice at the age of 16. She attended the Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam for two years before transferring to Boston University School for the Arts, where she received a B.M. in Voice Performance in 1999. In 2006, she received an M.A. in Music Performance from Wesleyan University, where she focused on experimental music, improvisation and collaborating with composers, and studied with Anthony Braxton, Neely Bruce, Alvin Lucier, Ron Kuivila, B. Balasubrahmaniyan, and Jay Hoggard. She has performed with Portland Opera Repertory Theatre, the Crane School of Music Opera Ensemble, the Boston University Chamber Choir, the New England Conservatory Continuing Education Opera Studio, MIT Gilbert and Sullivan Players, the Anthony Braxton Large Ensemble, the FLUX Quartet, Mirror Boiyz, and Connecticut Opera, and has premiered compositions by composers including Anthony Braxton, Neil Leonard, and Alvin Lucier. Anne currently studies voice with Jean Westerman-Gregg and is a member of the New Haven Improvisers Collective. |
