| Introduction | I have come to realize that I increasingly define myself by my choice of living and working in Asia. In the nearly 14 years I have been here I have never lost my sense of place. That is to say, I have never quite stopped feeling out of place. There has got to be a laugh or two in there somewhere and I hope I'll be able to record them here with objectivity, though I know the laugh will be on me. I also hope to explore a varoety of topics that interest me. That means, though I may comment on a great bottle of wine I bumped into, this will not be a place for oenophiles to seek information on any regular basis. Therefore, to assume that anyone would be interested in reading this journal is perhaps the ultimate conceit. However, I have had some initial success. My wife and my daughter are reading it. (Though they are likely monitoring to make sure I don't go off a deep end). Anyone is welcome to comment here, and anyone is welcome to hurl insults at what I have written. I would not intend to censure anything but there is one rule. It must be on topic. If you want a soapbox for new topics then go spend a weekend figuring out how best to put one of these together on your own. |
