| Introduction | Richard Lane Church grew up in southern California. He decided to become a writer after reading Dostoyevsky in high school. He took courses in composition and creative writing. He attended St. John’s College in Santa Fe, New Mexico, studying the Great Books series curated in 1947 at the University of Chicago. Dropping out, he finally earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing at age 52. Richard is a prolific reader of fiction, especially the classics such as Steinbeck, Twain, Dickens, Dante, and Goethe. Later, he added several genres–romance, detective, spy, science fiction, etc.–to his reading lists. He chose a career in outside sales to gain insight into how others think, feel, and express themselves. He has written numerous web pages, newsletters, and sales materials for his employers and as a freelancer. Richard has written several short stories. His first novel, The Night the Cats Left Socorro, is available on Amazon. His second novel will be available around Christmas 2025. Richard lives in a 100-year-old house in El Paso, Texas, with his wife of thirty years and three rescue dogs. He is a member of the El Paso Writers League.
