| Introduction | I am a Professor and Dean of the College of Design at the University of Minnesota. I have lectured at over 40 different schools of architecture and 60 professional societies, and have published over 35 book chapters and over 250 articles in various magazines and journals. I have also published seven books over the last eleven years: three with the University of Minnesota Press (In the Scheme of Things, Alternative Thinking on the Practice of Architecture; Salmela Architect; and The Invisible Element of Place, David Salmela, Architect), one by Rockport Press (Lake/Flato Buildings and Landscapes), one by the Architectural Press (Architectural Design and Ethics, Tools for Survival), one by Fairchild Books (Designing for Designers: Lessons Learned from Schools of Architecture, co-edited with Jack Nasar and Wolfgang Preiser), and one by the Princeton Architectural Press (Ethics for Architects, 50 Dilemmas of Professional Practice). |
