| Introduction | Am trained as a journalist but through practice I have discovered my passion for development and this is where I want to develop my future and career. I come from a country where 85 percent of the population is living in rural areas, access to basic social amenities like hospitals, schools, potable water is a great challenges. About 65 percent of the population is living in abject poverty. Although these statistics look scary and hopeless, I think there is something that can be done which can help break this cycle or trap and bring the people out. I really differ with Professor Jeffrey Sachs when he says that we are caught in a poverty trap where there is no way out. I agree with Nelson Mandela that poverty is not natural, it is manmade and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings. I feel there is something I can contribute towards uplifting of the standards of living in Malawi and getting people out of the trap. Many people living in poverty it means a lot of work and effort and human resource are needed to help them come out of it. So you are welcome to join me and others in the battle against poverty |
