Introduction | Since I graduated from the University of Maryland in 1991 with a degree in Zoology I have had a very diverse and interesting career path. I couldn't get into grad school for animal behavior and ended up working retail with a friend selling luggage for 6 years. Then after taking several line dance classes I met and became friends with someone who hired me for a biotech company doing lab animal diagnostics (serology). I worked there happily for about 7 years until the smallish company was bought out by a much larger corp. The last year and a half was bad after they trashed the old company culture and imposed a large impersonal corporate style. I then went to NIH where at first I had a great job working directly with a top notch scientist on malaria vaccines. But ugly politics forced the scientist-who was also mentored me as well as supervised me out and substantially changed the situation in such a way that I left before I found a job. It was a traumatic experience and I am still recovering from it. I currently hold a temporary job until I can find something better. |
