| Introduction | As a child, drawing and painting were my passions. Although several members of my family were successful artists, I was not encouraged to pursue a career in art. When I entered college, I naively studied both art and science, but eventually focused on a career in science. I remained focused on science for the next twenty years, painting sporadically – always wishing that I could find more time to explore the arts. I left behind my science career in 2001 to raise my family. I also enrolled in painting classes at the Maine College of Art and began painting with a whole new perspective. I enjoy the challenge of capturing on canvas the shapes, shadows, colors and contours that form when bright, natural light illuminates a child’s face, a landscape of trees, or everyday objects. I believe that my passion for art is driven by my fascination with the biology of life. Painting allows me to explore nature’s beauty from a more sensual perspective. I am delighted that I have returned to painting. |
