About me

Gender Female
Occupation Freelance Writer
Location St. Petersburg, Florida
Introduction I am a rare native Floridian -- second-generation no less, if you count my father, who was born while his parents vacationed in St. Cloud. I began my college education at Emory University, where I studied chemistry as a pre-med student. After two years and two tuition hikes, I followed my heart (and husband-to-be) to Miami, Florida, where I worked as a secretary at the University of Miami during the day and studied computer science at night. Two years later, I moved to Orlando, where I received a BS in Business Administration, followed by a CPA license and four children. I kept the children but let the CPA license go. My parents worried that my interests were scattered – I prefer to call them eclectic. Writing was the one constant – everything from guest editorial (My Word) columns for The Orlando Sentinel to newsletters for 4-H and school groups– so I decided to make freelance writing my career. I write about children, education, cooking, weight loss, nutrition and health, gardening, the environment, wildlife, pets, history, cultures, travel, and my home state of Florida.

What's the best time you've ever had licking stamps?

The best time I ever had licking stamps was when I helped my mother put the S&H Green Stamps in the books shortly before Christmas. I knew that the chances were good I would find something nice under the tree thanks to those stamps.
