The Coffeeshops of Amsterdam

Introduction	During an initial visit to the Netherlands, I had the feeling that the coffeeshops were a fantastic social institution. I also realized that they existed in a shadow world protected by neither the laws of the Netherlands or the European Union. I decided to capture scenes of these places, their colorful interiors and the characters who patronized them. Now over 20 years since my initial visits, many of the coffeeshops I have presented through this blog are gone. Laws have changed and many other circumstances have taken a toll on their numbers. For those who hold a special time at one of these places in their heart, seeing them preserved in art is very satisfying. Andy holds a BS degree in Business Administration/ Marketing. He attended Mercy College, located in Dobbs Ferry New York where he graduated Summa Cum Laude. He has held previous positions in marketing where he was engaged in the creative development of commercial marketing literature and in writing and submitting government proposals. Supported by a lifelong interest and study in the creative arts, Andy has found an inspiring and receptive environment here in the Netherlands.
