Introduction Growing up in Saudi Arabia in the 80’s was never going to be like visiting a musical Mecca and wasn't helped in not having access to the family stereo which was being controlled in my own middle eastern dictatorship consisting of my older sister. Her rule was to indoctrinate me to artists like Paul Young, Wham & Duran Duran. My parents weren't much help either as music would only consist of the dire straits album that was stuck in the car’s tape machine and a mix would be the “Now that’s what I call music” album. It wasn’t until I bought my first record that I thought I was on the right road - Depeche Mode’s – Never let me down, only to go off course when I followed it up with 'Curiosity killed the cat' and 'Wet Wet Wet' - the brainwashing & propaganda had created something dangerous. It wasn’t until my buddy directed me down the musical road of INXS’ kick that I started going my own musical way. It was the skateboard on the cover, but it was a hook. He was like a mini-musical Mr Myagi, and I became a reformed pop-addict. A steady stream of new music was filtered my way and whereas my buddy headed towards the beat, I’d head towards the troubadour…
