Introduction For more than 25 years, aviation and journalism have provided me with a workplace I love, a world of pilots and aircraft mechanics, aviation executives and aircraft assemblers, writers, photographers -- and, of course, airplanes. Thanks to a seven-year stint as a reporter in Washington, D.C., I was able to learn the inner workings of Washington politics and how through funding -- or the lack of it -- and regulations people of all experience levels were able to influence the aviation community. Working closely with regulators and lawmakers, bureaucrats and trade-association executives provided me with a degree of inside exposure unavailable through any other means. And as an active pilot today, the influence of those people and institutions comes home in stark reality every time I fly the system. So this Blog is my attempt to describe what I observe and learn how others view these same situations. If sometimes my verbiage sounds a little frustrated, angry or incredulous, well, it will be due to events that inspired those emotions and my resulting rants.
