| Introduction | Other than strumming chords on the guitar, never learned an instrument, or much about music. Since I can't go back in time, now is the best time to start to learn, so here I go. I’m astonished and impressed by people who develop the mind/body coordination required of physical feats, such as snowboarders flying off jumps and flipping and twisting in the air, then landing in one piece. How they learn to do that without first breaking their necks in the process astounds me. One mistake and curtains. I’d like to be able to do something like that. Playing an instrument such as the piano is a mind/body coordination feat with the advantage that a mistake yields no broken bones or severe pain. This appeals to me, especially since my bones are becoming brittle. But more important, I love music. So, here I go, hoping to teach myself the piano. |
