IntroductionSmith is a disabled woman, mother, artist, writer, and activist. She addresses challenges that women with disabilities experience as they parent, partner, pursue education and seek inclusion in their communities. She has worked on numerous research projects identifying where women with disabilities experience injustice and inequality, including The National Accessibility and Accommodation Survey of Women’s Shelters; & recently several projects focusing on disability and employment. She completed the Women’s Human Rights Education Institute at University of Toronto. Smith has published numerous articles on women, mothering, and disability in academic journals, mainstream magazines and newspapers; presented many papers at conferences and forums related to these topics; & worked actively on many boards and committees that address inequality, including; the National Educational Association for Disabled Students Board, the Council of Canadians with Disabilities. She is a director on the board for Pacific DisAbled Woman’s Network; has an MA in Women’s Studies & a BA in Women’s Studies & English from SFU, & is currently enrolled in a PhD program at UBC.
