| Introduction | I'm Phil Smith--philosophy professor and novelist. In this blog I want to explore the interface between philosophy and stories; hence the name "Story and Meaning." At one time or another, I'll probably refer to things I've written: 1.Learning to Love: Philosophy and Moral Progress (my PhD dissertation) 2. The Virtue of Civility in the Practice of Politics (University Press of America, 2002) 3. (with Mark McLeod-Harrison) Being at Home in the World (Wipf & Stock, 2011) 4. The Heart of the Sea (SynergEbooks.com, 2008, available as ebook) 5. Buying the Bangkok Girl (SynergEbooks.com, 2013, available as ebook and paperback) 6. Why Faith is a Virtue (Wipf & Stock, 2014) |
| Interests | Besides philosophy and writing, I like sports: baseball first of all, but Bruin athletics of all sorts. I've volunteered as a time-keeper at enough track meets that I was given a very nice Track & Field windbreaker. |
| Favorite movies | The Lord of the Rings, The Princess Bride, The Flight of the Phoenix (the old one), The Mission, Chicken Run |
