Introduction This blog is to update you on Chris and raise awareness of how to help fight leukemia. Chris was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in Feb 2007. After two months of intensive chemo that put him in remission, we began the international search for a stem cell donor. There was no suitable adult donor match for Chris. Finding a donor is always difficult, but the difficulty increases astronomically when a patient is a minority. We must do all we can to encourage people of every ethnicity to join the National Marrow Registry. SINCE THE POOL OF MINORITY DONORS IS SO SMALL (particularly mixed-race donors), PLEASE ENCOURAGE ANY MINORITY OR MIXED-RACE FRIENDS TO BECOME DONORS/DONATE CORD BLOOD NOW! Our family was very lucky in that we discovered later that it was actually best for Chris to do more chemotherapy as there is a chance for cure through chemo. Chris finished his final round of chemo in Dec 2007 and is doing very well. However, since there is always a chance that someone with leukemia will have to go to transplant, PLEASE BECOME A STEM CELL DONOR/DONATE CORD BLOOD. Chris is 36 years old and recently married. He and others like him need your help.
