InterestsAmérico Mateus holds a PhD in Management, a Master’s degree in Marketing, and a Bachelor's degree in Design. Since 2018, he has been a Professor of Strategic Design and Innovation at ISMAT – Instituto Universitário (Portimão, Portugal), where he also serves as Coordinator of Scientific Production at SEBL – Strategic & Expanded Biodesign LAB. Between 2017 and 2020, he was Vice-Director and Senior Researcher at HEI-LAB (Universidade Lusófona, Lisbon), and previously led the Ideas(R)evolution Research Group at UNIDCOM/IADE. ​ He is also a founding partner of GUDA – Give U Design Art, where he develops market-oriented innovation projects that combine consultancy, applied research, and the development of participatory and co-creative innovation processes. His approach integrates design methodologies with strategic management tools, in synergy with the Harvard Business School Case Study Method. ​ Currently, he is an integrated researcher at CIAUD and Principal Investigator of the Erasmus+ project COCOON – Co-Creating Greener Futures (ERASMUS-EDU-2022-PI-FORWARD), in partnership with Aalto University, IAAC Barcelona, FABLAB Reykjavík, Biopolis (Portugal), PUC-Rio, and Newcastle University. He is also a researcher in two Horizon 2020 projects: URBiNAT (grant nº 776783), leading the Participatory Design work package, and Co-Create (grant nº 806616), where he coordinated the co-creation task in Portugal (UNINOVA). ​ Throughout his career, he has coordinated more than 50 applied research projects (both national and international) in the fields of creativity, design thinking, territorial innovation, educational innovation, and digital transformation. He is a visiting professor and research advisor at several international institutions, including TU Delft, RMIT Melbourne, FH Vorarlberg, Universidad Europea Madrid, and Walden University.
