Introduction English teacher. Practicing vegan. Social activist. Baseball fan. Music nerd. Bike geek.
Interests Record collecting. Yes, vinyl records. Yes, they still make them. Yes, they do sound superior to digitized formats. Fantasy baseball and food preparation are also obsessions of mine. I hesitate to say "cooking", as I have been tinkering with a number of raw recipes.
Favorite Movies Who has time for movies? If I do it's usually a documentary.
Favorite Music If it's subversive, loud, obnoxious, counter cultural, obscure, or on an independent label, I probably listen to it. Recent vinyl acquisitions have included various gospel releases from the 50s/60s (Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Soul Stirrers, and Dixie Hummingbirds), as well as Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Six Organs of Admittance, Bill Monroe, O.V. Wright, and Manowar..
Favorite Books A variety of works. The fiction is usually challenging in nature and dark in content. William Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Robert Olmstead, and Cormac McCarthy are some examples of authors I enjoy. Non-fiction is always in rotation, usually revolving around titles dealing with the intersections of music and culture, as well as issues of social justice, animal welfare, and the environment. Oh yeah, and baseball. Curretnly reading Haruki Murakami's "Dance, Dance, Dance"
